Onam 2026: giving onakkodi to a baby

Onakkodi is the Kerala tradition of gifting new clothes to loved ones, presented on Thiruvonam day. In 2026, Thiruvonam falls on Wednesday 26 August, with Atham beginning on 16 August. Traditionally, adults receive kasavu mundu and saree, while infants and young children are given chittada — a small dress or little mundu.
